In today's session we got into pairs and presented our visual work and research to get feedback from other peers.
I found this helpful as I have currently been struggling with creating work in my journal as I am running low on ideas and seem to be repeating the same pieces over and over.
I have been inspired to take my visual journal in the direction of pornography and focusing on how the women in the industry are objectified.
A peer suggested that I choose a humorous approach towards masculinity and how porn makes men feel better about themselves but I am still yet to decide on whether to focus in that area.
Women losing their identities is an interesting point as it is well known that most porn stars give themselves a new name so that they are less likely to be recognised in their average lives.
I like the idea of using disgusting imagery such as takeaway images and photographs of meat next to the women but I have seen this idea take place before. I want to focus it more on how women are used to sell products.
Someone gave me the question "What's the difference between nude art and pornography?" which gave me the idea of looking at porn magazines and analysing whether they consider composition in their imagery.
I also like the idea of altering the faces of the women in the magazines to make them be seen as less attractive by society to see if the viewer would still look at the woman's body knowing that her face has been altered.
One Peer mentioned Jeff Koons 'Made in Heaven' project which involves paintings, photographs and sculptures of the artist and his porn star wife being intimate with one another but it has been presented in a more artistic way.
